Product Registration

How the Registration Program Works

The registration program will search for all Data Access products in the current directory – where the registration program is running from – and list them in its product tree. For each product found, the program tries to locate their licenses and displays the registration details under the product name.

The directory being searched will be displayed at the bottom of the tree, next to “Product Information read from”.

In order to enable the Register button, all three forms – Serial Number, Registration Name and Registration Code – need to be filled in. The Select License (for Web Application Server and DataFlex licenses) and Delete License buttons will only be enabled when a registration line is highlighted in the tree.

When registering a product, the tree will be automatically refreshed and the new registration will be displayed. The total number of users licensed will be displayed on the same line as the product name.

Import from INI

The Registration Program can import the necessary registration information from an .ini file. The file must contain the Serial Number, Registration Name and Registration Code (it may also contain other information but only those three data elements are used by the registration program). The information can be in any order, but they must be contained in a section labeled [DataFlex_License_Information] and the mandatory identifying labels must be in place for the import to be successful.

The mandatory identifying labels are:

So a properly formatted .ini file would contain the following minimum elements:

[DataFlex_License_Information]

Serial_Number=xxxxxx

Registration_Name=xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Registration_Code=xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Note: If you are registering multiple licenses (for instance, combining a Web Server and Windows Client), each set of registration information must be in a separate .ini file.

Activation Status

A green checkmark icon indicates that the license was activated. A red exclamation mark icon will appear if a license is not activated.

Activation is separate from Registration; Activation happens via a call from the DataFlex runtime to the DataFlex Activation web service.

Selected License

The currently selected license in the license stack.

Activation Date

The date that the license was activated.

Offline License Activation

Offline Activation is available for computers without internet access. This allows you to create a key to save to a file and take to a computer with internet access (for example, via a USB flash drive). There, you can access a manual activation form on the Data Access web site, and get a response key. This response key can be then be returned to the computer without internet access and used to activate the license(s) there. Simply click the button and follow the outlined steps.

General Rules

  1. An evaluation license is always replaced and removed from the tree when you enter a real license.

  2. Selected licenses cannot be deleted. In order to delete a Selected license, you will need to first select another license and then delete the license that was Seleted before.

  3. A license can only be entered for the products and product versions found in the current directory.

  4. The only products that can have their licenses selected are: DataFlex and Web Application Server.
